Release time! 😀 I uploaded these to my deviantArt last night so if you’re watching me there then you’d already have seen these, anyway from the RTP of VX Ace it’s Actor 5-2 Brenda, Enjoy
Not that many, it’s just the year silly.
I’m one animated battler short as I did kinda get distracted recently with preparation for next year. My next target is my spriting speed, now I know I’ve been getting quicker but I’m still not at the speed of getting resources out as fast as I’d like (I’m sure yous would feel the same). Anyway happy Christmas everyone and I hope you get all the pressies yous asked for/demanded.
You can click the thumbnails for the full sheet!
First up is my little enemy battler the Hobgob – a early enemy in Squaresofts’ Xenogears. I’ve tried to alter the way it attacks to give a more combo flexibility.
With the release of Victors State Graphics for use with his Victor Engine Animated Battlers I felt that one of my battlers, which I’d created for the intent of this effect, needed something else since Victor did a great job of making it so that the effect continues after the battle and the characters graphics are replaced. So Frog Song anyone?
Please note that these aren’t just frogs, they’re intended to be ‘like people’ and also keeping to the character sprite style I’ve been doing. The Faceset below is highly referenced from Final Fantasy VII but in VX(Ace) Style.
I’ve also made a variation to my FF Template and the first batch of sprites to go with.
I’m also still continuing towards completing the Mag collection, again I’m sorry to those that have been asking but all I know is that a script to use these with an animated battler script is being worked upon. I don’t want to mention or pester the person who’s said they’re working on it as I know they do have other commitments. When it’s released you’ll see on the forums and I’ll also let you’s know here or via Twitter.
Well there we go, this’ll be the last update until 2013, I hope yous have all had a great year. I’d like to thank each and everyone of yous for all the support and enthusiasm towards this project. I hope in the year to come I’ll be able to have a much larger collection of battlers and material for yous to use within your games.
Heck who knows, I’ve done 57 animated battlers in two years I hope to smash that total for the end of next year.
Stay safe and have a great new year.
Oh how I miss those Street Fighter titles, anyway I was asked if I could do a child template recently over at RRR and since I had a blank space on the template sheet I didn’t think twice. I believe I can now call this complete and I’d like to be able to expand upon this if there is interest in this style.
I know that if something isn’t RTP then it takes a lot for it to catch on and or be used within a project, but I suppose like my battlers they’ve got to start somewhere.
Enjoy and Stay safe~
Firstly time does fly, seriously it does, it’s been over a year since I started doing this style of battlers and I’m well, actually pretty pleased about it.
Okay reason for this post? Two things, firstly I’m actually making a start on Hulen, one of the early drafts of a battler is actually coming together now. I’ve not been able to make much progress so far because I’ve focused on getting a nice idle pose together.
This has been one of the hardest parts I’ve ever had to animate, a scarf… yep it’s not fully shaded or anything but I thought I’d share it since I couldn’t find a reference at all! So for those wanting to try to do these things yourself here’s a reference gif I hope you’ll find useful to get similar effects:
A little tip would be to not worry too much about the details until you’re happy with the overall look of the frames themselves. Also you’ll notice another reason why I’ve done this first (on a separate layer), he’s not moving. Yep this was hard enough to do BUT imagine doing this whilst he’s bouncing around the frame.
You can see there’s been some alterations to his design from the one previously shown and I’ve also got some nice plans to make this the most versatile animated battler yet! I may be crying in a few weeks because of me saying that but never hurts to try, nine times out of ten.
Number two, a brand new XP script for animated battlers has emerged! That’s right, and you know what? It looks fantastic, Moonpearl has done a brilliant job with this and I hope all you XP users out there give it a good old bug bashing. There’s some features in there which I didn’t think could be done in RGSS, but you can check out Moonpearl’s Animated Battlers right there and see for yourself.
A single battler steps forward to be used as a common knight, it’s a brave soul, but he’s here now for your party to take him down. Releasing Keimay with matching material of his portrait and a faceset graphic.
*Any FlyFF players would see from the name it’s been inspired via the Lvl.60 Keimay suit and he’s also got the Sword of Silver Sword – gawd I haven’t played that game in years 😦 *
Also brining the total to 29 now are three new mags:
Animated battler sheet will be available on forums.rpgmakerweb.com and www.rpgmakervxace.net shortly.
That’s it for today, but before I go I’ve been getting a few people asking what area I’m going to work on next. I may throw a poll up but just for testing I’m considering sticking to a string of battlers to create. Problem is I can’t decide what yous would like best, the most I’ve gotten ‘requests’ for are VXAce RTP – Final Fantasy Job classes & Dollmage remakes.

Well here it is, I spoke about this on my twitter recently and yeah I did most of the additional poses before actually finishing the walking animations.
I based this off (as you can see) the early Final Fantasy games, I find the smaller heads give a much better space for clothing without forcing the sprite over the 32×32 grid. I also referenced it in some of the down poses, as these tend to get requested quite a bit.
From working on this I actually found myself thinking back to my old XP ones and how similar they are, so I guess it’s also new work based off old work.
I had a quick little go at creating some familiar characters with it and well, I was quite pleased at how I was able to get the clothing to match.
Now that this is done it’s back to battlers, stay safe 🙂
